Highlights of the Festivities included Robotic Ribbon Cutting, Dignitaries and Advanced Automation Activities

Over 400 guests flocked to FANUC America’s massive West Campus Grand Opening to see the 650,000 sq ft robotics and automation hub on July 10, 2024. Attendees listened to presentations by FANUC America’s President and CEO Mike Cicco, FANUC’s Chairman Dr. Y. Inaba, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Quentin Messer, Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter and Auburn Hills, MI Mayor Brian Marzolf.

At the end of the presentations, two CRX cobots flanked the stage to automatically lift the ribbon while special guests and executive leaders cut the ribbon. All attendees were then invited to walk the Automation Path, which offered a glimpse of the customer-centric work being done at West Campus including stops at the Rail-Transfer-Unit, the 6,000 quick-delivery robot warehouse space and the centers for custom commissioning of robotic systems.

The $110 Million facility is testament to FANUC’s investment in the future of industrial automation. With operations now spanning over 2 million sq ft in Oakland County, MI, FANUC America is well equipped to meet the increasing demands for automation and workforce skills training. Plus, the development does not end with this expansion as FANUC America will soon begin creating the largest advanced automation customer training center in the US.

The grand opening of FANUC America’s West Campus marks an important milestone in the company’s history. In 1982, FANUC America (formerly GMF Robotics) began as a small joint-venture between General Motors and FANUC CORPORATION of Japan with just 70 employees. Fast-forward to today - FANUC America is an automation leader with 25 facilities located throughout the Americas.

This progress is driven by industry’s needs, driving the creation and delivery of FANUC’s cutting-edge technologies in robotics and automation. While robots initially found their niche in the automotive industry, today, FANUC products span across diverse sectors, including aerospace, agriculture, consumer goods, e-commerce, food and beverage, medical devices/pharmaceuticals, and more.
