Mobile Manipulators & Autonomous Mobile Robots

The need for dynamic mobility continues to grow in many production and warehousing environments. With an emphasis on flexibility, mobile robots allow for quick deployment and improved utilization of your robotic equipment compared to some fixed mounted applications. This is especially useful for low volume – high mix job shops considering robotic automation, but need the ability to quickly redeploy the robot from one machine to another.

What are industrial mobile robots used for?

Industrial mobile robots or “mobile manipulators”—robot or cobot arms mounted to an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) or Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR)—provide manufacturers the flexibility to transfer the robot to work in multiple workstations. This includes applications such as robotic machine tending, kitting, part transfer, shelf picking, palletizing and depalletizing, warehousing, assembly, general material handling, part inspection and much more.

FANUC is committed to enabling the use of our robots and cobots on a wide range of Mobile Robot Platforms and works with all AMR manufacturers to support mobile applications. Our experience continues to be proven by many industry-leading companies; let our automation applications engineers help solve your robot mobility challenges. Industrial Mobile Robots for AGV Robots and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) provide an autonomous method to bring automation where you need it, when you need it. Pairing a robotic arm with a mobile platform - either on an AGV or AMR - allows for additional capability without human intervention. Industrial mobile robots are useful in mobile machine tending (MMT), order fulfillment, pick assistance, automated storage and retrieval (ASRS), warehousing, and much more. FANUC cobots are also lightweight and easy to handle, making them ideal for mobile applications with potential human interaction.

Industrial Mobile Robotics Provide Maximum Flexibility & Productivity

Mobility can be achieved in a variety of methods. These can include mounting the robot to a mobile cart such as an Autonomous Mobile Robot or a portable base with fork pockets. A variety of pre-engineered solutions are available for quick-deploy robotic machine tending applications.

Additionally, in an application called “Goods to Robot,” ideal for pick-and-place warehouse applications, autonomous mobile roots move to and from a robotic arm, allowing consistent, efficient and fast-paced retrieval and placement of products. With capabilities to handle any number of SKUs, the mobile robot and fixed robotic arm work together to offer automation solutions for environments like the growing fulfillment center sector.
